JIB CRANES

ERGONOMIC OVERHEAD CRANE SYSTEMS BUILT TO LAST

We have thousands of pre-engineered overhead cranes, all of which can be fully customized to meet the needs of your specific application. Our certified engineers enjoy the challenge of creating custom systems for unique applications. All Spanco cranes come with the best warranties in the industry.
Spanco Jib Cranes lift and transport materials in semi circles (180 degrees) or full circles (360 degrees) around their support structure. These jib cranes can also be used to “hand off” materials to adjacent workstations. Hoists, manipulators, or balancers can be installed on the jibs’ booms. Our articulating jib cranes have booms with two axes so they can reach around obstacles, such as columns. All of our jibs quickly fold out of the way of overhead cranes.
  • Spanco Jib Cranes maximize space utilization: Wall-mounted jib cranes, ceiling or wall-mounted articulating jib cranes, and wall-traveling jib cranes require no floor space. We offer models with unrivaled clearance, both above and under the boom.
  • On some designs, you can use your building’s existing columns or overhead beams to mount our jib cranes, saving you money.
  • Freestanding jibs can be weatherized for outdoor use.
  • Capacities: from 100 pounds to 10,000 pounds standard and up to 30,000 pounds depending on span and jib series, with hundreds of pre-engineered models.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT JIB CRANE

  • Area of rotation: Freestanding and mast-style jib cranes offer 360-degree rotation; wall-mounted cranes offer 180-degree rotation.
  • Height Under Boom: The distance from floor to underside of jib crane’s boom is the height under boom. Also factor in hoist size and lifting height needed.
  • Overall jib crane height: Factor in any attachments, such as electrical entry, so that the crane will be free from overhead obstructions.
  • Actual working span needed: The working (or hook) distance is roughly the length of the boom minus ½ trolley length at each end.
  • Power requirements: Will you need power for your jib crane’s motor drive, its trolley, its hoist, or all three? Will the power supply be electric or air? Bottom or top entry? Indoor or outdoor use?
  • Installation: Your Spanco distributor can review your application and, together with our engineering team, make expert recommendations.

Small to Large Overhead Jib Crane Options

Jib cranes are a type of crane that does repetitive lifting tasks in tight work areas. These machines can be used alone or with other overhead cranes to increase their capabilities.
Spanco has several jib cranes for sale to lift and transport materials at your jobsite. We have several jib crane products in our inventory manufactured for durability and reliability for any application.

Mobile Jib Crane

Jib cranes move materials in a 180- or 360-degree range in the work area. This setup is ideal for lifting and transferring loads to nearby workstations or conveyors. Our jib cranes allow tools, such as balancers, manipulators, and hoists, to travel overhead easily on trolleys along the jib boom.

The benefits of a jib crane include:

  • Fewer workplace injuries.
  • Simple operation.
  • Enhanced safety.
  • Better space utilization with ceiling-mounted, wall-mounted, and freestanding models.
  • Fewer maintenance requirements.
  • The ability to be used in outdoor applications.
  • Higher worker productivity.
  • Cost savings by utilizing the building’s existing structure for mounting when feasible.

Wall-Mounted and Ceiling-Mounted Jib Cranes

Wall-mounted and ceiling-mounted jib cranes do not require a foundation or floor space, but instead mount to the building’s existing support beams. This mounting style provides excellent clearance above and below the boom, and these jib cranes can swing out of the way of overhead cranes.
Spanco also has wall traveling jib cranes, with a boom length up to 40 feet and a capacity of up to 5 metric tons. This model laterally moves materials across long distances without using floor space.

Floor Mounted Freestanding and Portable Base Jib Cranes

Freestanding jib crane systems are designed to be mounted to a concrete foundation, which both anchors the crane and acts as a counterweight. Spanco provides recommended foundations based on a soil pressure of 2,500 pounds per square foot. It may be possible to reduce the foundation size if determined feasible by a qualified architect or engineer.
Portable base jib cranes are ergonomic solutions for repetitive load transfers. They work in multiple locations throughout your facility and save manual labor. Since portable base jib cranes are easy to relocate using a forklift, you can adapt them to future workflow changes and remove them from rental facilities.

Articulating Jib Cranes

Articulating jib crane systems have a boom with two pivot points to navigate complicated work areas, including reaching around corners and columns and under and into containers and machinery. With this flexibility, the articulating crane can precisely place loads around workplace obstacles.

Mast-Style Jib Cranes

Mast-style jib crane systems eliminate costly foundations by mounting to existing building columns and a standard six-inch thick reinforced concrete floor. Providing 360-degree rotation, these jib cranes are a lower cost alternative to freestanding jib cranes.

Foundationless Jib Cranes

Foundationless jib crane systems are industrial slab-mounted systems for indoor use that are bolted to reinforced concrete. If the requirements are met, these systems do no require a special poured foundation. Providing 360-degree rotation, foundationles jib cranes can be easily relocated almost anywhere if needed.
